You could do a nice garter shawl if you have a few odd balls of other stuff around, Try this: 4.00 mm needles (8 ? american?)it's not critical. about 6/8 50 gram balls chunky yarn about 4/5 50 gram balls of sportweight fancy yarn Work 2 rows chunky and 2 rows fancy alternately Increase before and after the central stitch, every other row. The O at the beginning of each row also gives an increase as you knit it on the next row. Cast on 3 stitches in the chunky, knit 1 row change to fancy and row 1: O (wrap yarn round needle without making a stitch) k1, M (make 1 by knitting the bar between the stitches) k1 ,M, k1 row 2 :O k6 change yarns row3 : O, k3,M,K1M,k3 row4: O, k10 carry on till 150 rows have been worked or till it's big enough. cast off loosely, knot a fringe with crochet hook through the O edges, if desired. --- This pattern downloaded from Wool Works: the online knitting compendium http://www.woolworks.org/
