I actually have two and I will try to get the other one posted as soon as time permits. In the meantime I will start with the solid color one and hope that helps those of you who were looking for this pattern can use it to get started. You are all such a wealth of encouragement and information for those of us who really need you. I thank all of you who have patiently answered questions ( both smart and dumb ) for me this year. :) I wish you all a healthy and joyous holiday season. Solid Color Knitted Tie I ask that this pattern not be reproduced without my permission outside of this list. [Editor's note: the author has granted permission for this pattern to be posted at Wool Works.] This pattern was originally developed for my teenage son. He thought it would be "bad'" ( I think that means good in teenager :) its length can be easily adjusted by adjusting the decreases and increases. Materials: Sport weight yarn Any color. 2 one ounce skeins Pair of # 2 needles (2.75 mm) Gauge: 9 stitches = 1 inch 12 rows = 1 inch Starting at lower edge, cast on 45 sts and p 1 row, k 1 row. Now work in stockinette st ( k 1 row, p 1 row), keeping the first 2 sts in garter stitch (k sts) and increasing one stitch at the end of each knit row until there are 75 sts on needle, ending with a p row. Then work as follows: 1st row. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row and inc 1 st at the end of row. 2nd row. Purl across. 3rd row. Repeat row one 4th row. P across to last 2 sts then purl 2 tog. Repeat the last 4 rows until 48 sts remain. On every k row dec 1 st at beginning and increase 1 st at end of every row. On every purl row dec 1 st at the end of the row. Continue in this manner until 33 sts remain. Now dec 1 st at beginning of each k row and increase 1 st at end of the same row ( omitting decreases on purl row ) until tie measure 35 inches ( approx 89 cm ) through the center from point. On next knit row, dec 1 st at beginning and increase st at end of row. On next purl row, inc 1 st at beginning. Repeat the last 2 rows alternately until there are 42 sts on needle. Omit the decreases at beginning of each knit row and continue to inc 1 st at end of each knit row until there are 57 sts on needle. Now dec 1 st at beginning of each k row and omit increases at end until 37 sts remain. Bind off. Finishing: Fold tie lengthwise and sew edges neatly together along center. I hope you all enjoy this pattern. It is my first attempt at writing down a pattern as I work, so I hope here are not too many errors or typos. I have checked it several times however if you should find an error please let me know. Happy Knittin' Debra Locke Fort Knox, Ky Where it actually has warmed up some.
